Based in Annan, Scotland the band was started in 1993 by Mr F Bell as a piping school to support the Senior Band of the Annan Ex-Service Club Pipe Band. Several members of the Senior Band decided to join with the other pipe band in the town at the time in April 2004.
Since the the juvenile numbers expanded and we now have 12 chanter players, 10 drummers and 13 pipers. These youngsters are taught by 3 voluntary instructors. The intention was to form a competing Juvenile Pipe Band and this we have now done. The juveniles have taken part in many solo competitions and have brought home their fair share of prizes. Our first band prize was recieved at Innerleithen on 13th June 2009 for coming forth in the Grade 4 compeition.
The Juvenile Pipe Band is a properly constituted organisation with a Commitee made up of the children's parents and dedicated to teaching young people. The Juvenile Pipe Band is necessary for preserving our Scottish heritage and culture for the future and also to give young people an enjoyable hobby to participate in.
Until recently there was no bagpipe teaching being carried out by the local authority, but Pipe Major Chris Phair now teaches on a Wednesday afternoon at Annan Academy where parents are encouraged to stay during lessons and are very supportive. Our Juvenile Pipe Band is the largest teaching group in the area.
We have received grants that have made a huge difference to us and all the band would like to thank anyone who has helped with this. To help our funds we have car boot sales, quizzes, fun nights etc and we support many events within the town and surrounding areas.
There are two practises a week from 7.00pm - 9.00pm for all band members:
Tuesday & Thursday - Eastriggs Social Club
We have an open door policy and are pleased for anyone to come and see what we do.
At a meeting in October 2005 between Annan Ex-Service Club Management Committee, The Royal British Legion Scotland Annan Branch and ourselves, it was agreed that as The Royal British Legion Scotland Annan Branch was giving us substantial support in the way of sponsorship we would use their name and be called
Annan Juvenile Pipes And Drums,
sponsered by The Royal British Legion Scotland
So therefore the Juveniles are in effect the Annan Ex-Service Club Pipe Band with no change to our orginial Constitution. We are resident in the Annan Ex-Service Club who kindly give us free use of their premises.
In October 2009 we went to America - our first ever tour. The band performed at various events in the state of Massachusetts including the famous Quincy Market in downtown Boston. More information, photos can be found at
We hope do well in the furture, now playing in Grade 4B and hope to grow and expand in numbers.
